Questions people ask us
About the organisation, the content, and the free tips service.
About us
Who is behind The Pathway to Progress?
We are a nonprofit organisation that publishes free skin care education. Our mission, registration details, address and who runs us are on the About page. We are not a skin care brand or a clinic.
Are you doctors?
No. We are a small group of volunteers in Ghana who work from published medical guidelines and peer-reviewed research. We are recruiting licensed clinicians to review clinical content and name them on the page when they have done so. Nothing on this site is personal medical advice.
Why is everything free?
Because our mission is education, not sales. We believe that good skin care guidance should not depend on what someone can afford.
About the content
What do you mean by "natural" skin care?
We use it to mean plant-based, mineral and naturally derived ingredients, plus gentle habits such as sun protection and barrier care. We do not claim natural products are automatically safer or better; some popular natural remedies are harmful, and we say which.
How do you decide what the evidence says?
We read the original research and major guidelines, then label each remedy as strong, moderate, limited or lab-only evidence. The method is set out in our editorial policy, and every guide lists its sources so you can check them yourself.
Is the advice suitable for brown and Black skin?
Yes, and we write with skin of colour in mind throughout: how conditions look on darker skin, the higher risk of dark marks and keloids, sunscreen without a white cast, and the dangers of unregulated lightening products.
Can I ask about my own skin?
We cannot give personal medical advice or diagnose from photos. If you are unsure what is going on, our page on when to see a dermatologist explains the warning signs and how to find affordable care.
I found a mistake. What should I do?
Please email us. We correct errors promptly and note significant corrections on the page.
About the weekly tips
What do I get if I sign up?
Email subscribers start with a free 5-day email course, one short lesson a day, on the topic they chose. After that comes one short, evidence-based tip each week, with a link to the full guide and its sources, and occasionally an extra message when important safety guidance changes.
How do I unsubscribe?
Click the unsubscribe link in any email. We remove you within one working day and do not keep your details beyond our retention period.
Do you share or sell my details?
We never sell them, and we never share them with skin care companies, advertisers or anyone else for their own marketing. We use a few trusted service providers to store and send messages, and they may process your details only on our instructions. Our privacy policy lists them.
Can my child or teenager sign up?
The service is for people aged 16 and over. Parents and carers are welcome to join on behalf of younger teenagers, and many of our guides are written with teenage acne in mind.
