Your five lessons

  1. Day 1
    How melanin-rich skin is different

Why dark marks, keloids and ashy dryness are more common, and what that means for your routine.

  2. Day 2
    Sunscreen without the white cast

Why you still need it, and how tinted and sheer formulas avoid the grey film.

  3. Day 3
    Fading dark marks safely

Gentle ingredients with evidence, and why irritation makes marks darker.

  4. Day 4
    Products to be careful with

Unregulated lightening creams, harsh acids, and the pomades and hair oils that cause spots along the hairline.

  5. Day 5
Finding a dermatologist who knows skin of colour

What to look for, what to ask, and the changes that should never wait.

How we work

Honest, careful and free

Evidence labelled

Every remedy is rated strong, moderate, limited or lab-only, so you know what is worth trying.

Safety first

Dilution, patch testing and who should avoid an ingredient, in plain words.

Honest about limits

We tell you when something needs a pharmacist or dermatologist instead of a home remedy.

Is this for you?

Who the course is for

Adults, and parents of teenagers, who want to understand everyday skin problems and try gentle, affordable approaches first. It is general education, written in plain English, and it cannot replace advice from someone who can see your skin.

See a professional instead of waiting for an email if: you have painful cysts or acne that is scarring; a rash with fever, blistering or sores in the mouth; a mole or mark that is changing, bleeding or will not heal; infected-looking skin; or any change that worries you. When to see a dermatologist.
Questions

Before you start

Is it really free?

Yes. The Pathway to Progress is a nonprofit and the course is part of our mission. There is no paid tier and nothing you have to buy to take part.

What exactly will I get?

Five short emails, one a day, each covering one lesson from the outline above. After that, one practical tip a week. Occasionally, when important safety guidance changes, we may send one extra message. We never send daily emails after the course.

Will you ask for personal health information?

No. We only need your email address. We keep a note of which course you chose so we send the right lessons, and we never ask for your medical history.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can leave in the middle of the course; nothing else is needed.

Who writes it?

Volunteers at The Pathway to Progress, from the same cited guides you can read on this site, following our editorial policy. Every remedy carries an evidence label.

Is this medical advice?

No. The course is general education. It cannot account for your own history, medicines or allergies, so please speak to a pharmacist, doctor or dermatologist about your own skin.
